Doctors to hold protests March 12, 19 against police assaults

The Doctors' Syndicate said Monday it will hold protests on March 12 and 19 to condemn assaults by security personnel against medical workers over the past few weeks.

The syndicate said in a statement that the demonstrations will take place outside its Cairo headquarters as well as major hospitals across all provinces. The statement added that the events will voice demands of “dignity for doctors, security for hospitals and the enforcement of laws holding assailants of doctors and medical facilities accountable”.

The protests will not interfere with delivering medical care to patients, said the syndicate, adding also that participants will ensure no political slogans are voiced during the demonstrations.

Assaults on doctors by police agents have prompted the syndicate to organize wide-scale strikes which includes providing free medical services in retribution.
Most of the incidents reported in recent weeks broke out when police personnel got angry at medical workers for allegedlynot giving attention to their health conditions.
