Security forces in Alexandria announced Tuesday the arrest of nine people over accusations of plotting to incite violence and chaos and disturbing state institutions during the fifth anniversary of the January 25 Revolution, Alexandria Security Directorate announced in a statement.The statement added that the suspects, aged between 24-49 years old, “recorded a number of videos broadcasting false news and with shots of protests to be posted on social media.”
The suspects allegedly confessed they belong to the Muslim Brotherhood group, the statement continued.
Egypt designated the group as a “terrorist organization” in December 2013.
Per an August 2015 anti-terrorism law, anyone who establishes, organizes, runs, or presides a “terrorist” group or entity shall be sentenced to life in prison or death.
