Dar al-Ulum professor in Fayoum suspended over sexually harassing students

An assistant professor at Fayoum University was suspended Sunday until investigations into his alleged sexual harassment of students are concluded, Youm7 reported.

The prosecution is investigating the assistant at the Faculty of Dar al-Ulum for harassing six female students. A total of 125 students filed complaints against the Arabic grammar teacher, 50, at the legal affairs department of the university.

The department heard nine of the students and referred the case to the prosecution after the case was decided a criminal offence.

On Nov. 10, a pharmacy professor at Cairo University was referred to investigations after students complained that he verbally harasses female students and degrades students at large. The complaint claims that in once incident, the professor told a female student to sit next to him to keep her “warm.”

An event page of Facebook demanding the dismissal of the professor has over 2,300 users with the status “going.”

People wrote bizarre incidents with the said professor; some of the stories date back to previous years as early as 2002. For example, Karim Soliman, who says he is a 2009 graduate, wrote that the professor made students write the zero mark for themselves at oral tests.
