371 tons of spoiled food, 980K juice cartons confiscated in October

A total of 371 tons of food products and 980,000 juice cartons were confiscated for being unfit for human consumption, Minister of Supply Khaled Hanafy announced Thursday.

The foods included meat and milk products, fish, salt, rice, sugar, oil, chicken, pasta, flour, honey, vinegar, soda, juices, chocolate, sesame and other products.
 
Some 154 tons of other commodities were also confiscated as being unfit for human consumption, having an unknown source, or lacking data. The products include diapers, cosmetics, medical supplies, and other products.
 
A total of 961 lawsuits were registered with the confiscated products to sue their owners, according to the ministry statement.
 
Two tons of rotten meat were confiscated at an unnamed restaurant in Haram district in Giza Oct. 12 and the case was referred to the prosecution, Youm7 reported.
 
On Sept. 26, some 101 tons of rotten meat, poultry and fish were confiscated in a week during a similar campaign by Cairo Directorate of Veterinary Medicine. Approximated 192 police reports were made with the confiscated products.
 
The Ministry of Supply’s statement included the hotline 19280 to receive complaints from consumers.
