Former secretary general of Muslim Brotherhood’s dissolved Freedom and Justice Party Hussein Ibrahim was arrested Monday evening in the Mediterranean city of Marsa Matrouh, Youm7 reported.Former secretary general of Muslim Brotherhood’s dissolved Freedom and Justice Party Hussein Ibrahim was arrested Monday evening in the Mediterranean city of Marsa Matrouh, Youm7 reported.

An arrest warrant was issued for Ibrahim accusing him of inciting violence in the wake of the ouster of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, a security source told Youm7.

Ibrahim was arrested before an attempted flight to Libya, according to the source.

The arrest comes a few days after senior Muslim Brotherhood figure and businessman Hassan Malik was arrested from his house in New Cairo’s upscale district of Tagammu el-Khames on charges of funding a group that promotes violence.

Dozens of Muslim Brotherhood leaders have been arrested during the past two years. Morsi himself was sentenced to death for plotting jailbreaks and attacks on security forces during the 2011 uprising.

In September 2013, a court ruling was issued to ban the Brotherhood, deeming it a “terrorist organization” and confiscating all its assets.
