Families of security forces’ victims were honored by Cairo governor Galal Saeed during a celebration that was held at the governorate headquarter Friday.

Egypt has witnessed a significant rise in militancy since the military-backed ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule. According to the Interior Ministry, militant attacks have killed more than 500 security personnel since then.

Photos of Saeed with the families of slain security personnel holding new signs of the streets were posted on the governorate’s webpage.

Names of more than 25 streets and 20 schools in Cairo’s districts, where the slain security personnel lived, have been renamed after the victims.
