Cairo court rules lack of jurisdiction in designating Qatar, Turkey ‘terrorist’

Cairo Court for Urgent Matters ruled Monday lack of jurisdiction in a case demanding the designation of Qatar and Turkey as “terrorist states.”

The civil plaintiff claimed that Qatar payed a role in militant attacks on the military in North Sinai, and that the Muslim Brotherhood, labeled “terrorist” in Egypt and some Gulf states, operates from Turkey.

The same court banned the Brotherhood and April 6 Youth Movement in the aftermath of the 2013 ouster of Mohamed Morsi.

Egyptian relations with Qatar and Turkey severely deteriorated after Morsi’s military ouster. Several Brotherhood-affiliated conferences and channels were launched in Turkey in the past two years, as the group’s leaders either landed in jail or fled Egypt.

The critical coverage of Qatari royalty-owned Al-Jazeera has been criticized by Egyptian officials and slammed by mainstream media.
