A total of 85 labor protest cases have been reported across Egypt so far in 2015, compared to 287 cases in 2014, Manpower Minister Nahed Ashry was quoted by Youm7 Tuesday.
Most of the 2015 labor protests, which were concentrated in 19 governorates across Egypt, have been dispersed after the workers demands were met, according to Ashry.
Sharqia ranked first among Egypt’s most vulnerable governorates with 40 cases of protest, the Mediterranean governorate of Alexandria came second with 35 cases while Cairo has seen 34 cases, Ashry added.
Workers at the Misr Spinning and Weaving Company located in Egypt’s Delta city of Mahalla have staged a protest in 2010 demanding a pay rises. The protest fueled the 2011 uprising that toppled Egypt’s former President Hosni Mubarak.
In most cases, the workers’ demands guaranteed to them by law had been met.
