Ayman Nour urges political powers to ‘acknowledge past mistakes’

Head of the Tomorrow of the Revolution Party and previous presidential candidate in 2005 Ayman Nour called Saturday for an “open discussion” with “January 25 Revolution powers,” in order to “acknowledge past mistakes” and define the future.

“Our demanded democratic and civilian state should be based on freedoms, rights and without any kind of exclusion,” he said on his Twitter account, adding this kind of discussion “is the only way to fix the division between national government and civilians.”

“Political tolerance doesn’t mean that we will forget, instead it means that we have to learn from it.” Nour wrote.

Osama Hekal, previous Minster of Media and Information in 2012, said Monday this call aims to bring back Muslim Brotherhood to political life, but Egyptians “would never accept that,” Youm7 reported. Former parliament Member Alaa Abd Al-Monem told Al-Tahrir television channel Sunday night, that Nour’s call “lacked objectivity,” and not logical.”

“My call has no relation or link with a specific political powers or currents; it’s only an invitation to take part in a national agreement.” Nour wrote on his Twitter account Monday.

The April 6 Movement said that they do not have any problems with Nour’s initiative, and that they will consider any call that would guarantee transitional justice and retribution, even if it came from the current regime itself.

Group Mohamed Mostafa Told Youm7 Monday that they will not accept any initiative that would forget about the past as “We would be cheating ourselves.”
