US Secretary of State visit to Cairo on Tuesday denied by Abdel Atti

Egypt's foreign affairs ministry spokesperson Ambassador Badr Abdel Atti denied that US secretary of State John Kerry was going to visit Cairo on Tuesday, Reuters' Aswat Masriya reported.

A source told Reuters' Aswat Masriya that the US embassy in Cairo has neither confirmed nor denied the visit which was announced by state-owned news agency MENA Monday afternoon.

Egyptian and American diplomatic sources had initially told Ahram Online on Monday that Kerry was going to visit Cairo to discuss the latest development in the Gaza crisis.

Egypt already proposed a ceasefire initiative between Palestinian factions and Israel last Monday night which was to start with "de-escalation" at 6 AM GMT and advance to a complete ceasefire at 6 PM GMT.

Although Israeli officials and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced that they agreed to the initiative, the official website of the Qassam Brigades, Hamas' armed wing, announced that it rejected the proposal of which it was never informed.
