Head of the parliament’s foreign affairs committee Mohamed el Orabi called on the German Foreign Ministry to support Egyptian candidate Mushira Khattab to the post of UNESCO Director-General.
The remarks came during Orabi’s meeting with a delegation from the German Embassy in Cairo.
The delegation promised to consider supporting Khattab for the UNESCO post.
Over the past few weeks, Khattab visited several European countries and met with several ministers and senior officials from Member States of the Executive Council of UNESCO in order to gain support before the elections, which will take place early 2017.
In statements to the media in July, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry revealed that African countries have agreed to support Khattab in her bid to become the next UNSECO Director General when Irina Bokova’s term ends next year.
