Cairo Criminal Court adjourned the trial of the of former president Mohamed Morsi and 14 other defendants accused of killing and inciting murder against protesters at Ithadeya Palace to April 19 to continue hearing testimonies.
The prosecution had accused the defendants of killing and inciting to kill protesters outside Ithadeya Presidential Palace on Dec. 5, 2012, amid the clashes that erupted between the Brotherhood supporters and the protesters following Morsi’s constitutional declaration issued in November 2012, which stretched his power.
It was a closed hearing session and the court has issued a gag-order on the case.
The defendants include Mohamed Morsi, former Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, Freedom and Justice Party Chairman Saad Katatni, senior Brotherhood leader Mohamed al-Beltagy and Freedom and Justice Party Deputy Chairman Essam el-Erian, among others.
Morsi also stands trial in three other cases: insulting the judicial body, jailbreak for his prison escape during the January 25 Revolution, and espionage for working with foreign Islamist groups, including Hamas, to reap chaos in Egypt.
Morsi has remained in custody since his July 3, 2013 ouster, and until his first court appearance on Nov. 4, 2013, his place of detention was unidentified.
