The Coptic Orthodox Church announced the start of the second phase of its project to train 1000 church teachers. The program is sponsored by His Holiness Pope Tawardos II and aims to develop way of teaching and thinking of the Coptic leaders.

The Egyptian Ministry of Finance denied rumors that the requirements of the International Monetary Fund led Egypt to face a severe economic crisis. The Ministry said in a statement that the economic situation has improved in Egypt and the success of the Egyptian reform program was documented by many international institutions, in addition to the remarkable improvement in all categories and economic indicators of Egypt.

Bishop Demetrius of Malloy, Ansna and Ashmounin, promoted Father Hedra Tawfik to the rank of Hegumin on the occasion of the silver jubilee of his ordination a priest. The promotion occurred at St. Mary and St. Joseph in Mallawi in the presence of its clergy and congregation.

Bishop Daniel of Sidney opened a new church in Gosford in NAW state, Australia. The church was named after the Virgin Mary and St. Luke.
