Survey: 62% of Egyptians favor anti-terrorism act

A survey conducted by the Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research, also known as Baseera, has revealed that 62 percent of Egyptians approve of an anti-terrorism act while 57 percent agree to another draft law dealing with political demonstrations.

Baseera also issued a statement saying that 65 percent were aware of the anti-terrorism act.

The survey was conducted between 30-31 October, using a sample of 1,964 citizens aged 18 and over.

The draft law was prepared by the Interior Ministry and submitted to the Justice Ministry for revision, prior to sending it to the Cabinet and interim President Adly Mansour.

The draft allows the monitoring of social networking sites to make sure they are not used for terrorist purposes, which include attacks on citizens, state institutions and educational and religious facilities.

Prosecutors and court officials may also access bank accounts and deposits during investigations into terrorism.a
