NETHERLANDS: Pope Tawadros II, along with a delegation of senior bishops from the Coptic and Catholic Churches, will visit the Vatican beginning of next December during a five day visit to Rome, according to a source from the Vatican.
This marks the Pope’s second visit to the Vatican, which sources from within the Vatican describe as a “historical one,” as it will gather representatives from both the Coptic and Catholic Churches and Pope Francis I to initiate a partnership between the two churches.
The meeting will be held at the headquarters of St. Peter’s Basilica and the Pontifical headquarters of Rome’s Pope.
According to the source, the meeting will be spiritually ecclesiastical as it combines the two largest churches in the world; the Coptic Church of St. Mark the Apostle and the Catholic Church of St. Peter the Apostle.
The source added that it is expected for the Coptic Church to recognize the Catholic baptism through this meeting, which hopes to resolve this issue of ideological differences and promote unity in faith.
