Pro-Morsi movements announce 6 October protests

The Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), National Coalition to Support Legitimacy and the Muslim Brotherhood organisation officially announced Thursday their participation in the 6 October protests.

The National Coalition to Support Legitimacy, in collaboration with the FJP, released a statement calling on “the free masses” to head to Tahrir Square on Sunday, 6 October. The coalition and party announced that the starting points for demonstrations are to be at noon from all major mosques of Cairo and Giza governorates‫.

The Muslim Brotherhood announced its participation through a statement titled “6 October – we need a new victory” which accused the military of “conspiring with those standing against the revolution… kidnapping the legitimate president and killing unarmed civilians.”

The Tamarod (Rebellion) campaign, responsible for launching the 30 June protests calling for the removal of former president Mohamed Morsi, earlier this week called on Egyptians to take to the streets on Sunday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the October War.

Similarly, the campaign called on the anti-Morsi camp to head to Tahrir Square during the national holiday, saying in a Wednesday statement: “Don’t fear the threats of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood organisation”.

Rival camps are set to demonstrate in the same areas and security is expected to be on high alert.

In Suez, the head of medical emergency unit, Modather Mohamed, announced that all “units are currently on emergency alert and all doctors, ambulances and medics’ vacations are postponed until the events of 6 October are over.”
