Defendants accused of killing Suez student to remain in detention

A Suez appeal court judge renewed the detention of the three defendants accused of killing a student in Suez 7 days until the case can be further studied.

The three defendants Magdy Farouk, Walid Bayoumi, and Antar Abdel Ghany attended the court session, which was heavily secured by police and the armed forces.

Head of the Suez Security Department Adel Refaat said that a team of police detectives had been formed to investigate the incident and hand over evidence to the prosecution.

The father of the victim, Hussein Eid, said that rumors that his son was not engaged to the young woman he was with at the time of the incident are not true.  He said that Ahmed was to marry her after Eid al-Fitr, less than two months from now. He denied that his son could have committed obscene acts at the time of the incident as he was in a public place.

Eid also said he had filed a claim to the general attorney of Ismailia against the doctors of the hospital at which his son was treated, accusing them of gross negligence that lead to his death.

Eid added that he had contacted Shura Council member for Suez Ahmed al-Rawy when his son was in the hospital, but Rawy did not respond to his request.

Rawy, meanwhile, said that he had asked Eid to wait for the official results of investigations.
