Jama'a al-Islamiya official warns against Brotherhood 'swallowing' state

A member of the Jama’a al-Islamiya Shura Council has warned against the Muslim Brotherhood “swallowing” the Egyptian state after the group’s candidate, Mohamed Morsy, won the presidential election with 51.7 percent of the vote.

Nageh Ibrahim said in an interview with Al Arabiya that the Brotherhood had been oppressed since its establishment in 1928, but that now it has achieved its objective of ruling Egypt, the question is whether the group and its party would serve the state or whether the state would be “swallowed” by the Brotherhood.

Ibrahim said the Brotherhood should serve the state and its institutions, warning against operating state institutions in conformance with the group’s current approach, which he said would be dangerous.
