Mubarak requests his elder son in Tora prison hospital

Ousted president Hosni Mubarak requested the transfer of his son Alaa to accompany him in Tora prison hospital after reportedly suffering a deterioration in his health and breathing difficulties following the announcement of his verdict on 2 June.

Mubarak was transferred to Tora Prison after having been sentenced life imprisonment along with his ex-Minister of interior Habib El-Adly for failing to prevent the killing of protesters during the 18 days of mass protest that led to the ouster of the fromer president.

The corruption charges against Gamal and Alaa Mubarak were dropped because the alleged crimes took place over 10 years ago. They will now face trial for being involved in accumulating LE2.51 billion in illicit profits by violating capital market laws and taking control of a majority stake in Al-Watany Bank through investment and private equity funds that they controlled. Habib El-Adly's aides, six former police commanders, were acquitted.

Mubarak has already been joined by his son Gamal at the hospital since last Wednesday upon a doctor's recommendation for the former president to be chaperoned.

According to Egypt's prisons law, family members who are serving sentences can share the same prison cell.
