UNESCO chief launches 'message of respect'here Ihab Shaarawy

EGYPT can play a key role in sup- porting dialogue among cultures and civilisations due to the respect commands from the Arab and Islamic world, said Director General of the United Nations Education

, Science and Culture Organisation (UNESCO) Irina Bokova."Egypt is a significant partner for the UNESCO in the Middle East, that's why we have the regional office of the organisation here," Bokova told reporters after talks with President Hosni Mubarak in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh yesterday. She added that her visit to Egypt was a'message of respect' to the Muslim and Arab world in accordance with the UNESCO's goals in spreading the culture of peace and dialogue across the world.Bokova, who was elected in mid- September as the head of the internation- al organisation after narrowly defeating Egypt's Culture Minister Farouq Hosni, also held talks with Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak and Minister of Higher Education Hani Helal.
