Ganzouri: We will not allow any irregularities in election

In press statements on Monday, Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri said the government would not allow any irregularities in this week's presidential election, and would take all legal measures against attempts to prevent citizens from casting their votes.

He added that in his last meeting with the military council he agreed to fully guarantee the integrity of the electoral process.

He added that women wearing the niqab would not be allowed to vote unless their identities are checked, and that irregularities like using the names of deceased people, duplicating names, or using names of police and army personnel who are banned from voting would be immediately reported.

He called on all citizens to participate in the first free presidential elections in the country, which he considered an historic moment for Egypt.

A military source told Al-Masry Al-Youm last Thursday that the ruling military council approved a plan to secure the upcoming presidential elections.

The source said that 95 percent of the security forces securing the elections would be military personnel. The leaders of military units have already inspected the polling stations and the units have been given specific guidelines for dealing with unrest, the source added.

He stressed that any acts of violence would be dealt with firmly in order to protect the voting process.
