Egypt will not allow interference in Parliamentary election

Egypt's government reiterated Tuesday that it will not allow international election observers for its parliamentary vote later this month, despite calls for it to relax media coverage and allow poll monitoring

"We don't want any international monitoring agencies to interfere in Egypt's national affairs. This is the business of Egypt," said a government spokesman, part of the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's delegation visiting the United Arab Emirates.

Egypt's rights record has been criticized by allies and international human rights groups that say the authorities are using force against political foes and voters to keep Mubarak's National Democratic Party in power when polls open on Nov. 28.
