Egypt parliament to discuss relations with France, Canada on Thursday

Karim Darwish, the head of the Egyptian parliament  s foreign affairs committee, told reporters on Wednesday that the committee will hold two meetings tomorrow to discuss relations between Egypt on one hand and France and Canada on the other.

Darwish said the first meeting will be held with a French parliamentary delegation. The meeting will be attended by Jacques Maire, vice president of the French National Assembly  s foreign affairs committee.

The second meeting, said Darwish, will be held with Sherif El-Sabawy, the first Egyptian to be elected to the Canadian parliament.

A parliamentary French delegation, headed by Maire, held a meeting with parliament  s defence and national security committee on Wednesday. French Ambassador in Egypt Stephane Roumtier attended the meeting.

Head of the committee Kamal Amer told reporters that “Egypt highly appreciates its close relations with France and the relations between Cairo and Paris have always been remarkable.”

Amer said the meetings with the French delegation aim to reinforce strategic relations with France on all levels.

“The two countries have common interests and they are keen to strengthen their partnership in all fields,” said Amer, adding that “there is intensive coordination between Egypt and France at the economic and military levels.”

“France is a major exporter of modern weapons and arms to Egypt, not to mention that the leadership in the two countries has always been keen to exchange views on crises in the region, particularly in Libya,” said Amer.
