Brotherhood chief slams TV show

CAIRO--Chief of the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt's banned-yet-influential opposition power, has lashed out at  el-Gamaa "The Group", a serial being shown on several TV stations in Egypt and the Arab world.

"There is nothing new about assailing the Brotherhood and distorting its name," said Mohamed Badae, the Supreme Guide of the group banned in Egypt since 1954. Badae, elected to the top post of the group, was speaking at a banquet in the Nile Delta province of Sharkia on Saturday night.

Wahid Hamad, the famed author of the show, which has been hitting the airwaves since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, has denied he has been commissioned by the Egyptian Government to write the show to assail the Muslim Brotherhood, which holds a fifth of the Egyptian Parliament. Its members, however, run in elections as independents.
