Egypt official convicted of role in deadly rock slide

An Egyptian court has convicted the Cairo deputy governor in a 2008 rock slide that killed 119 people on the outskirts of the city and sentenced him to five years in prison

"The court found the deputy governor, Mahmoud Yassin, and seven lesser officials guilty of manslaughter," said MENA.
The other officials were sentenced to three-year prison terms. Mr. Yassin was in charge of the Dweiqa slum, which was smashed in 2008 when giant rocks raced down from a cliff.

The incident drew a public outcry, and the slum’s families appealed to authorities for safer housing.
