Substitute Soliman scores twice as Ahly move back to top in Egyptian league

Walid Soliman came off the bench in the second half to score twice and create a goal for in-form Nigerian forward Junior Ajayi as Ahly crushed promoted El-Nasr Taadeen 3-0 to move back to the top of the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.

The Red Devils continued their habit of only scoring second-half goals to claim a fourth successive win.

Soliman converted a penalty just after the hour mark and provided an assist for Ajayi to double their lead and find the net for the third straight match.

The Egyptian international winger made it 3-0 with six minutes remaining to help Ahly move back to the summit with 29 points, two ahead of second-placed and surprise package Maqassa who have a game in hand.

Taaden remain at the bottom with five points from 11 games.

Struggling for creativity, Ahly found it difficult to break down Taadeen in a first half they dominated, only creating one goal-scoring chance before the break.

After 11 minutes, Ajayi went clear after a clever through pass but his shot struck the bar.

Ahly also had a goal disallowed on the stroke of halftime when Abdallah El-Said headed home a left-wing cross from Moemen Zakareya, with the referee adjudging the latter to be in an offside position.

In a rare chance for Taaden, a curling free kick from Hesham Abdel-Hamid was denied by the crossbar early in the second half but Ahly quickly regained control to end their resistance.

Soliman hit his spot kick low into the bottom corner after a defender handled a shot on 61 minutes before setting up Ajayi for a second which effectively sealed the win nine minutes later.

Ajayi rose above two markers to head home an in-swinging cross from Soliman, who completed the rout six minutes from time.
