6 Brotherhood members sentenced to 6 years in prison over Nasr City protest

Six alleged Muslim Brotherhood members were sentenced to six years in prison Tuesday for sabotaging private and public property, Youm7 reported.Six alleged Muslim Brotherhood members were sentenced to six years in prison Tuesday for sabotaging private and public property, Youm7 reported.

Nasr City Misdemeanor Court also fined each defendant 50,000 EGP ($5,630,). A pro-Brotherhood protest took to streets in Nasr City in 2015 blocking a road and starting fireworks and flares, injuring bypassers, and damaging cars and public property.
 
Thousands of demonstrators have been sentenced to prison under the 2013 protest law, which bans protests without a prior police permit.
 
Massive demonstrations took to streets almost on a daily basis in different Egyptian cities throughout 2013 and 2014. Some protesters have been sentenced to death over violent clashes that killed policemen and civilians, although many of the sentences have been reduced. The protests calling for the reinstatement of former president Mohamed Morsi have largely subsided since 2015.
