Fisherman dies, two survive after collision with Nile ferry in Sohag

A fisherman died on the River Nile on Monday when his boat was hit by a ferry in Tahta, Sohag, Upper Egypt.

The man's father and cousin, who were also on the fishing boat, survived the accident.

According to the Sohag Security Department, the victims were fishing when the ferry suddenly hit them from beheind.

The ferry’s captain said he had not noticed the fishing boat.

After the accident, passengers on the ferry assaulted the captain, who was then taken to hospital.

Ferry accidents have become relatively common over the past few years, in some cases revealing boats that are overloaded and lacking proper operating licenses.

In early January, 15 people died when an overloaded ferry sank at Kafr al-Sheikh in the Nile Delta.
