The first session of Egypt’s newly-elected parliament will be held Jan. 10, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi announced Thursday, also releasing the names of 28 presidential appointees.

The list includes 14 women, three of whom are Christian, and 12 below the age of 50. The 28 members include renowned Islamic scholar Osama al-Azhary, and Mohga Ghaleb, a female Al-Azhar professor of Quran interpretation. It also includes several doctors and university professors.

Athlete Rania Elwani, a swimmer; Youssef al-Qaeed, author and media personality and Galila Hennawy, a Maspero media professional, are included in the list.

It also includes Lamis Gaber, a controversial pro-Hosni Mubarak writer. Only two partisan personalities were appointed; secretary-general of Wafd Party Bahaa al-Deen Badr and head of Tagammu Party Assayed Abdel Aal, both considered opposition bodies.

There are indicators that the speaker of the parliament will be Serri Mahmoud, 74, head of the Cassation Court, the top court in Egypt, Youm7 reported.
