1 dead in minor Pro-Brotherhood protest on Friday
A pro-Muslim Brotherhood protester died on Friday in Al-Matariya district in clashes with locals, an interior ministry statement read.

A member of police personnel also suffered a birdshot injury, the statement, published on the interior ministry’s official Facebook account, read.

The police also dispersed several ‘limited’ pro-Brotherhood protests in Cairo, Beni Suef, Fayoum, Minya, Alexandria and Giza governorates.

Police arrested 40 protesters who were found in possession of molotov cocktails, the statement added.

Fridays have witnessed protests by Muslim Brotherhood supporters since the ouster of Mohamed Morsi by the Egyptian army led by now President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi after mass protests in June 2013.

The government has since cracked down on members of the Brotherhood who rejected the move, describing it as a coup against an elected president.

Hundreds have been killed in protests and thousands imprisoned for being members or supporters of the Brotherhood – officially deemed a terrorist organisation by the authorities – or protesting.

Militants have taken up arms against security forces since Morsi's ouster, killing hundreds of police and army personnel.
