Tamarod member shot dead Monday, says group
A member of the Tamarod campaign, the grass root movement that led to the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last summer, was shot dead in Giza's Kerdasa district on Monday, the group announced.

Mohamed Fathy was shot in the stomach early on Monday morning and died immediately, according to a statement published on Tamarod's website which quoted forensic head Hesham Abdel-Hameed.

Abdel-Hamdeed added that the forensic report has been sent to prosecutors for an investigation.

The campaign has accused the Muslim Brotherhood of being behind Fathy's death.

Early reports by the police denied that Fathy was a member of Tamarod, according to Al-Ahram's Arabic news website.

The attack came hours before voting kicked off for Egypt's 2014 presidential election – the first since Morsi's ouster last summer.

Tamarod is backing former army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in the poll, who is widely expected to defeat his only other rival, Nasserist politician Hamdeen Sabahi.
