Attempt to murder dean of Al-Azhar University’s Faculty of Commerce

An Al-Azhar University student threw a Shrapnel Bomb behind the dean of the Faculty of Commerce Wednesday, as he was inspecting exams, but the bomb didn’t fully explode, Saeed Abdel Aaal, the dean, said, according to AL-Watan news website.

Aal was taken into custody by security forces, for his own protection, after the attempt on his life, Youm7 reported.

Muslim Brotherhood supporters protested in Al-Azhar University Wednesday under an intensified security presence and clashes broke out between students and security forces at the Faculty of Commerce.

Students fired firework at security forces who responded with teargas.

Security forces are combing the campus to arrest the rioters after an administrative security individual was seriously injured, Al-Watan reported.

Security forces arrested 22 students accused of rioting and reportedly found gasoline bombs, birdshot guns and masks, on them, according to Youm7.

Protests also launched in other universities.

In Ain Shams University, students organized a march in the main campus of the university to the building of the Faculty of Science; security then closed the gates of of the faculty, Youm7 reported.

Security reinforcements centered around the university and closed Al-Khalifa El-Mamoun Street.

One student was killed by birdshot in Tuesday clashes at Cairo University, Youm7 reported Tuesday.

Three unidentified assailants in a car shot at security forces outside Al-Azhar University, killing three policemen and injuring eight, according to a statement by the Interior Ministry.

The attack took place early Tuesday, after a number of students demonstrated outside of the Al-Azhar University dormitories, trying to block the road, the statement read, adding that the students threw Molotov cocktails and fireworks at the police officers.
