Azbakeya Misdemeanor Court sentenced Sunday 30 suspects to three and a half years in prison over involvement in clashes in January in front of the Supreme Court of Justice.Azbakeya Misdemeanor Court sentenced Sunday 30 suspects to three and a half years in prison over involvement in clashes in January in front of the Supreme Court of Justice.

The defendants face charges of joining an armed group, resisting authorities, attacking police, rioting, possessing arms and impeding public transportation.
 
On Jan. 28, 2014 and during the celebrations of the third anniversary of January 25 Revolution, pro-Muslim Brotherhood groups called for mass protests nationwide demanding the release and reinstatement of ousted President Mohamed Morsi.
 
Clashes erupted between opposing groups, including 6 April Movement and security forces.
 
The clashes led to 49 dead nationwide including at least 13 in front of the Supreme Court of Justice, according to the official Ministry of Health death toll, while arrests reached 1,079.
 
The Friday of Rage, Jan. 28 2011, marks an important day of the January 25 Revolution when millions of Egyptians took to the streets calling for the downfall of former president Hosni Mubarak’s regime and chanting the slogans of the revolution: “Bread, freedom and social justice.”
