Sabbahi’s presidential campaign will sue ‘smear campaign’

Presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi’s campaign spokesperson Amr Badr said there is a difference between objective criticism and “smear campaigns,” and they will not tolerate the latter.

The campaign welcomes any objective criticism to Sabbahi, his program, or his campaign, Badr told Youm7 reporter on Monday.

He said there is a difference between criticism and smear campaigns and that the campaign will file lawsuits against those who defame the campaign and its candidate without evidence, according to Youm7.

Coordinator of the pro-Minister of Defense Abdel Fatah al-Sisi campaign Kammel Gameelak (Fulfill Your Role) Refaei Nasrallah accused Sabbahi of “collaborating with foreign states” and “receiving funds,” during a phone call to Tahrir channel on Feb. 17.

Sabbahi made a statement that Nasrallah does not have any legal basis to his accusation. On Mar. 21, the campaign said it filed reports to the Attorney-General for directing “unfounded accusations” at Sabbahi.

The campaign announced Monday that it started an electronic campaign to collect support for Sabbahi in the upcoming presidential elections, according to a statement on its official Facebook page.

Sabbahi’s electoral campaign maintains its stance against granting immunity to the Supreme Electoral Commission’s decisions, according to the new Presidential Election Law issued by Interim President Adly Mansor in March 2014.
