Amr Farouk, a leading figure of the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy, said the alliance halted all negotiations on the initiative of Dr. Hassan Nafaa, a professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, because he insisted that the Muslim Brotherhood accept his initiative in a press conference before moving to another step.
“His request is unjustified,” Farouk said. “For Mohamed Ali Bishr of the Muslim Brotherhood had accepted the initiative in principle.”
He said the ruling regime and the committee of intermediaries, which includes prominent journalists Mohamed Hassanein Heikal and Fahmi Howeidi, did not announce their approval.
“We are willing to end the political crisis,” he said. “But all parties must have a genuine intention to negotiate seriously.”
