MB alliance undecided about presidential race: Informed source

The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy has not decided its stance regarding the upcoming presidential elections, according to informed source inside the alliance. The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy has not decided its stance regarding the upcoming presidential elections, according to informed source inside the alliance.

The source told Youm7 late Saturday that the presidential elections law would reduce the chances of their participation in these elections.

The alliance, which maintains that the July 3, 2013 ouster of Mohamed Morsi was a coup, has refused to recognize the interim government.

Secretary-General Mohamed Abu Samra of the Islamist Party, one of the parties supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, said the alliance has two choices: boycott of the presidency or participation by supporting one of the candidates.

“If the Muslim Brotherhood hesitates to participate in these elections that will lead to the loss of great numbers of supporters who demand the backing of Morsi” added Samra Friday.

The Muslim Brotherhood was officially dissolved in early October of 2013, criminalizing any group activities, as well as granting the state authority to seize its assets. The Brotherhood was also designated a terrorist organization on Dec. 25.
